Notice the signs
Observe
Check current provider notices, ask whether nearby properties are affected, and record water at the street, service route, foundation entry, or fixture. Preserve safe meter observations without opening, adjusting, or breaking any seal.
Protect the room
Safety line
Do not enter a roadway, excavation, flooded electrical area, or unstable ground to inspect. Utility markings, ownership confirmation, and an authorized excavation plan belong before digging.
Material note
Local boundary
Most of Cohasset uses the town water system, but the Water Department says some addresses are served by Aquarion. A bill or direct provider confirmation must come before assigning a public contact or using town boundary rules.
Service flow
Written scope
Private locating work should state the suspected segment, evidence, tracer or acoustic method, uncertainty, public coordination, excavation assumptions, surface protection, and what additional authorization follows a positive finding.
Close the loop
Verification
The handoff record should show the confirmed provider, who accepted the report, the location investigated, test conditions, public or private determination if issued, and any area kept isolated. Avoid turning an unverified wet patch into an ownership claim.
