Service approval
A water-service repair affects a controlled connection, not just a private trench. Cohasset's rules call for an application, department approval, and inspection for covered new, repaired, replaced, or renewed service.

Notice the signs
Assemble the address, verified provider, service material and route, leak evidence, proposed endpoints, contractor identity, schedule, access, traffic or surface constraints, and any existing department correspondence before asking for pricing.
Protect the room
Do not let urgency erase utility marking, trench protection, public coordination, or the difference between temporary containment and authorized permanent work. Avoid disturbing suspected service material merely to identify it.
Material note
Cohasset Water, the plumbing inspector, and other departments may control different parts of one project. Ask each authority about its actual approval, inspection, notice, contractor, and document requirements for the stated scope.
Service flow
The proposal should assign application preparation, fees, inspection scheduling, shutoff coordination, approved materials, excavation, bedding, connections, flushing, testing, paving or landscape restoration, and final records to named parties.
Close the loop
Before final payment, collect the issued approvals, inspection result, photos before concealment, as-built route, test and flushing record, warranty terms, and a clear note about any unfinished public or private surface work.
